What will a power station run in a power cut?
Tick what you need to keep on, pick how long the power is out, and see how long each one lasts — and which one to get.
1. What do you want to keep running?
2. How long is the power cut?
You need about 707 Wh for 12 hours, and up to 217 W if everything runs at once.

How we work it out
Battery size and output come from each manufacturer's spec sheet. We assume you get about 85% of the battery out of the sockets, because the inverter that makes mains power loses some on the way.
Appliance figures are typical. A fridge only draws power when its compressor is running, so it averages far less than its rated watts. Kettles, heaters and microwaves draw a lot but only briefly — a power station needs enough output (watts) to start them at all, and enough battery (watt-hours) to keep the rest going.
Check the label on your own appliances for exact numbers, especially medical devices. For a CPAP, ask your supplier which power station they support.
