Is the XGIMI Horizon 20 worth it?

Yes β€” the one to get for a living-room cinema.

Its triple-laser 4K picture is bright enough to look good with a lamp on, with great contrast and excellent colour straight out of the box. Motorised zoom and lens shift make it easy to fit the screen without moving it, and it games at 4K/120Hz with very low lag. It has Google TV and Harman Kardon speakers. The darkest scenes look a little grey, and some people see rainbow flashes.

Good to know

  • Near-black detail is a little raised in very dark scenes.
  • Some people see rainbow flashes, as with most DLP projectors.
  • Removing judder from films drops the picture to 1080p.
  • 'High Power' mode washes out colour and gets loud.

How we reached this verdict

RTINGS praises its great contrast, brightness that holds up with some ambient light, excellent out-of-the-box accuracy, motorised zoom, wide lens shift and 4K/120Hz gaming with very low input lag. Its gripes are slightly raised blacks in very dark scenes, rainbow artefacts and no carry handle or battery.

We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
