KitchenAid Artisan: questions before you buy

Yes — for most home bakers.
The stand mixer most bakers should get: solid, simple and it lasts.

What comes in the box?
The US Artisan (KSM150PS) comes with a 5-quart bowl, a flat beater, a dough hook, a 6-wire whip and a pouring shield.
Is it powerful enough for bread?
For everyday loaves, yes. If you make big batches of stiff bread dough every week, a more powerful mixer like the Kenwood Titanium Chef Baker XL copes better.
How much can it mix at once?
The 5-quart bowl is big enough for most home baking. For large batches of stiff bread dough, a bigger, stronger mixer copes better.
How many speeds does it have?
Ten. KitchenAid suggests speed 1 for gentle stirring, up to 6 for beating and creaming, and 10 for fast whipping.
How heavy is it?
About 22 lb. Most people leave it on the counter rather than lifting it in and out of a cabinet.
What attachments can I add?
The hub on the front takes more than 15 optional KitchenAid attachments, such as a pasta roller, food grinder and spiralizer.
What's the warranty?
The US Artisan comes with a 1-year limited warranty.
Can I use a UK KitchenAid in the US, or the other way round?
No. UK models run on 220–240 V and US models on 120 V, so buy the one made for your country.
Should I get the Artisan or the Classic?
Both mix the same way and take the same attachments. Get the Artisan for a bigger bowl with a handle, a pouring shield and more colours; get the Classic to spend less if you bake small batches.
KitchenAid or Kenwood?
For cakes, cookies and everyday dough, get the KitchenAid Artisan — it costs less and takes less space. Get the Kenwood Titanium Chef Baker XL if you bake bread or big batches every week and want scales built in.
