Ooni Karu 2: questions before you buy

Yes — for most people.
Real wood-fired pizza, with gas as an option. The best all-rounder.

What fuel does it use?
Wood or charcoal straight out of the box. Add Ooni's gas burner, sold separately, and it runs on gas too.
How hot does it get, and how fast does it cook?
Ooni says up to 500°C (950°F), cooking a pizza in about 60 seconds. In Tom's Guide's test the stone reached about 400°C (750°F) in 10–12 minutes.
What size pizza does it fit?
Up to 12 inches. For 16-inch pizzas you'd need a bigger oven.
How many pizzas can I make in a row?
Tom's Guide made five back to back — plenty for a family or a few friends. For big parties you'll be cooking in rounds.
Is it hard to use?
Not hard, but a wood fire needs watching: you add fuel to keep the heat up between pizzas. The gas burner makes it push-button.
Can I see the pizza while it cooks?
Yes. The door is borosilicate glass, with a coating Ooni says reduces soot build-up.
How heavy is it?
About 15 kg (33.7 lb). You can move it around the garden, but it's not one to carry far.
How long does it take to set up?
Tom's Guide had it running in under 15 minutes — you fit the door and chimney.
What's the warranty?
Ooni gives a free 5-year warranty only on ovens bought from ooni.com. If you buy elsewhere, check that retailer's warranty.
Should I get this or a Ninja electric pizza oven?
The Karu 2 for real wood-fired flavour and more heat. A Ninja if you'd rather plug in and press a button, with no fire to manage.
