Is the Dreame L40 Ultra Gen 2 worth it?

Yes — if you tidy the floor first.

It has 25,000 Pa of suction, an arm that reaches into corners, and a dock that empties the bin, washes and dries the mops and refills the water. Testers found it picks up well on hard floors. It's poor at avoiding cables and chair legs, and the spinning mops wipe rather than scrub.

Good to know

  • Gets stuck around chair legs, and avoids little on carpet.
  • The dock washes the mops with cold water; the first L40 Ultra used hot.
  • Sand pick-up was below average in Vacuum Chef's tests.

Get it if…

  • Your floors are mostly clear.
  • You want a full self-cleaning dock without flagship prices.
  • Hard floors are most of your home.

Skip it if…

  • Cables, socks and toys are often on the floor — the Saros 10R dodges them far better.
  • You want a mop that scrubs dried stains — get a roller mop like the Omni C28.
How we reached this verdict

Vacuum Chef measured strong airflow and near-perfect pick-up of litter and coffee, but scored its obstacle avoidance 30% against a 66% average. Just A Dad Approved, after 90 days, found the suction claim holds on hard floors but the mops just wipe and the robot gets stuck around chairs. Good value if your floors are clear.

We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
