Is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra worth it?

Yes if you want a huge Android tablet; for pro apps, the iPad Pro.

Its 14.6-inch OLED is huge, sharp and bright, the body is only 5.1 mm thin and about 695 g, and the S Pen comes in the box. It's IP68 water resistant, fast enough for any Android app or game, and lasted about 11.5 hours in Tom's Guide's browsing test. It costs more than last year's S11 Ultra, the keyboard is extra, it's unwieldy to hold for long, and many Android apps still aren't made for a screen this size.

Good to know

  • Too big to hold comfortably for long, especially one-handed.
  • The Pro Keyboard is extra, and costs a lot.
  • Samsung DeX's desktop mode works best with an external monitor.
  • It replaces the S11 Ultra with small changes; the older model is cheaper if you can find it.

Get it if…

  • You want the biggest screen for films, drawing or side-by-side apps.
  • You use an Android phone, especially a Samsung.
  • You'd use it with a keyboard as a laptop stand-in for email, docs and browsing.

Skip it if…

  • You need pro video, music or design apps: the iPad Pro has far more.
  • You want a tablet to hold in bed or on a sofa: it's unwieldy.

How we reached this verdict

Tom's Guide calls it the best Android tablet yet, praising the OLED, thin and light design, performance and battery, but not the $200 price rise or DeX needing a monitor. Expert Reviews praises its performance, battery life and design and finds it better value than an iPad Pro with keyboard and pen, but says Android apps still don't suit a 14.6-inch screen.

We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
