Is the GE 50-Pint Dehumidifier with Built-in Pump (APYR50LC) worth it?

Yes β€” for large, damp basements.

It pulls moisture out of large, open spaces fast and keeps up in very humid conditions, while staying energy-efficient for something you leave running. The built-in pump and hose push water to a far-off or raised drain, so you never empty the 1.7-gallon bucket, and Smart Dry adjusts the fan to the humidity. It's loud even on its lowest speed and throws off a lot of heat, so it's not for bedrooms, and there's no Wi-Fi.

Good to know

  • Loud enough to disturb sleep or TV, even on low.
  • Makes small rooms hot and stuffy.
  • No Wi-Fi or app.

How we reached this verdict

RTINGS names it the best dehumidifier it has tested: excellent capacity for big spaces, efficient, with a built-in pump and humidity-based fan control. Its big downsides are noise at every fan speed and a lot of heat.

We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
