Is the TCL RM9L worth it?

Yes β€” if you want a huge flagship screen.

Its RGB Mini LED backlight gives very deep, uniform blacks with almost no haloing around highlights or subtitles, outstanding peak brightness and bright, vivid colour. Upscaling is excellent and all four HDMI ports are HDMI 2.1. Out of the box it looks too blue and over-brightens most content, the glossy screen reflects lamps, and it starts at 85 inches.

Good to know

  • A cool, blue tint out of the box, and most content is over-brightened.
  • Whites can pick up a tint from the colours around them.
  • The glossy screen does little against direct reflections.
  • The picture fades from the side.

How we reached this verdict

RTINGS rates it excellent for most uses: very deep blacks with almost no haloing, outstanding peak brightness, vivid colour and excellent upscaling. Its weak points are a blue tint and over-brightened picture before calibration, slightly higher input lag than rivals and mediocre handling of direct reflections.

We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
