Is the TCL S55H worth it?

Yes β€” a cheap step up from TV speakers.

The wireless sub adds real thump, voices are smooth and clear, and it gets loud with little compression. It has room correction, a dialogue mode and EQ presets. It's a 2.1 bar, so surround is downmixed and Atmos height effects are weak, the highs are slightly muffled, there's no HDMI input, and sound lags over HDMI eARC with no setting to fix it.

How we reached this verdict

RTINGS rates it decent for mixed use and good for TV and music: a mostly balanced sound with some thump from the sub, clear voices and plenty of volume without compression. It marks it down for weak height and surround, high HDMI latency with no AV sync setting and no HDMI input.

We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
