How long do I have to freeze the tub first?

24 hours. You freeze your base solid in the tub, then the machine shaves it into ice cream in a few minutes. When Tom's Guide tried after only 14 hours, the result was soft and soupy.

How much ice cream does one tub make?

Each Deluxe tub holds 709 ml — about 50% more than the original CREAMi's. Two tubs come in the box.

Can I use tubs from the original CREAMi?

No. The Deluxe only takes Deluxe (NC500/NC501 series) tubs, and its tubs don't fit the original CREAMi or the Scoop & Swirl. Check the series before buying spares.

What can it make?

Ten programmes: Ice Cream, Sorbet, Lite Ice Cream, Gelato, Milkshake, Mix-In, Frappé, Frozen Drink, Slushi and Frozen Yoghurt.

Is it good for protein or dairy-free ice cream?

Yes — it's one of the main reasons people buy one. Tom's Guide found it excelled with protein and flavour powders, and Expert Reviews found dairy-free recipes came out as smooth as dairy ones.

Can I make two flavours in one tub?

Yes. The Deluxe can process the top and bottom halves of a tub separately, so one frozen base can become two different flavours.

Is it loud?

Yes, like a blender while it runs. TechRadar measured up to 88 dB on the original CREAMi making sorbet. Each spin only takes a few minutes.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes. The tubs and lids, outer bowl, lid and paddle can all go in the dishwasher.

How big is it?

Bigger than most kitchen gadgets: Ninja lists 7.3 kg and about 50 cm tall with the bowl fitted. Check the space under your cupboards.

Should I get the Deluxe, the original or the Scoop & Swirl?

The Deluxe for most people, especially families. The original if it's just for one or two and you want to spend less. The Scoop & Swirl only if soft-serve cones are the point — it's bigger and costs more.
