Get it if…

  • You bake cakes, cookies or bread most weeks.
  • You'd like attachments like a pasta roller later.
  • You want a mixer that lasts for years.

Skip it if…

  • You make big batches of stiff bread dough — get a more powerful mixer.
  • You'd have to lift it out of a cupboard every time.

Things to know before you buy

  • Heavy, at around 11 kg — it's a counter-top machine, not one you'll lift in and out of a cupboard.
  • The motor is rated far lower than Kenwood's, so large batches of stiff dough are hard work.
  • The tilt-head takes a little getting used to when you add ingredients.

Tom's Guide picks the Artisan as the best stand mixer for most people, and its mixing, build and attachment hub are why. The UK version comes with a second 3 L bowl and a flex-edge beater. If most of what you bake is heavy bread dough, a stronger mixer suits you better.
