Is the LG UltraGear 27GX790B worth it?

Yes — for fast, competitive PC gaming.

Motion is very sharp at any refresh rate, and you can switch from 1440p at 540Hz to 720p at 720Hz for esports. Its Tandem OLED panel gives deep blacks with no haloing, highlights pop in HDR, and the matte screen handles reflections well. It has to scale 4K down to 1440p, so a PS5 or Xbox looks a little softer than on a 4K screen.

Good to know

  • Some fringing around text, common on this panel type (RTINGS).
  • The USB-C port only gives 5W, so it won't charge a laptop.
  • VRR flicker when the frame rate swings.

How we reached this verdict

RTINGS names it the best upper mid-range gaming monitor: very sharp motion, low input lag, high-bandwidth DisplayPort and HDMI 2.1, deep blacks with no haloing and an ergonomic stand. Against it, it can't fight intense glare, text shows fringing, and like every OLED it carries a burn-in risk.

We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
