Is the Samsung S84F 55-inch OLED worth it?
Yes — the best-value Samsung OLED.
It's the UK twin of Samsung's S85F: a 55-inch OLED with true blacks, very wide viewing angles and very low input lag for games. It isn't as bright as the S90F and Samsung skips Dolby Vision, but for evening films, sport and console gaming it's a lot of OLED for the money.
Good to know
- No Dolby Vision or DTS sound (choose.tv).
- HDR highlights are modest next to brighter OLEDs, and strong light can tint the blacks (choose.tv).
- Leave the HDR tone-mapping setting off: it brightens scenes too much (choose.tv).

- OLED blacks at a mid-range price
- Four HDMI 2.1 ports, 120Hz with VRR
- Very low input lag for gaming

How we reached this verdict
choose.tv scores the S85F/S84F 8.1/10 and calls it one of the best TVs at its price: effectively perfect blacks, full DCI-P3 colour, about 5 ms input lag at 120Hz and four full-speed HDMI 2.1 ports. TechRadar calls the S85F a brilliant, affordable OLED, especially for gamers. Its limits are modest HDR brightness and no Dolby Vision.
