What comes in the box?

The bowl, a flat beater, a dough hook and a wire whisk. There's no pouring shield, and the bowl has no handle.

How much can it mix?

KitchenAid says the 4.3 L bowl takes up to about 0.9 kg of flour, 2.5 kg of cake batter, 1 litre of cream or around 80 cookies.

Is it powerful enough for bread?

For a loaf at a time, yes. For big batches of stiff dough every week, a stronger mixer copes better.

Does it take the same attachments as the Artisan?

Yes. The hub on the front takes all KitchenAid's optional attachments, like the pasta roller and food grinder.

How many speeds does it have?

Ten, from a slow stir to fast whipping, with the same planetary mixing action as the Artisan.

How heavy and tall is it?

About 10.5 kg and 35 cm tall. It's built to stay on the counter.

What's the warranty?

KitchenAid UK gives the Classic a 2-year guarantee — the Artisan gets 5 years.

Does it come in many colours?

Only a few, mainly white and black. The Artisan comes in dozens.

Should I get the Classic or the Artisan?

The Classic if you bake small batches and want to spend less — America's Test Kitchen rates it highly for the money. The Artisan for a bigger bowl with a handle, a pouring shield and more colours.
