Is the Cuisinart FastFreeze (Freeze Wand in the UK) worth it?

Yes โ€” for one or two, and small kitchens.

Like a CREAMi, you freeze a base for 24 hours, then it churns it into ice cream, sorbet, milkshake or slush. You lock a half-pint cup under the wand and plunge it down; each cup takes under a minute. It costs about half as much as a CREAMi, fits in a drawer and is quieter. Each cup is one or two servings, so it's not for a family, and low-fat bases come out a little grainy.

What owners say

Owners love how easy it is, the small pots that fit the freezer and let them try several flavours, and how good the ice cream tastes. The only complaint with text found chocolate ice cream powdery.

Good to know

  • The base still has to freeze for 24 hours first, and it helps to let the cup soften for 10โ€“15 minutes.
  • Half-pint cups, so serving a group means freezing several.
  • Low-fat and protein bases come out a little grainy; full-fat ones are creamy.
  • The blade takes some care to clean.

How we reached this verdict

Tom's Guide found it cheaper, faster, quieter (82 dB) and far easier to store than a Ninja CREAMi, with full-fat ice cream good enough for a dinner party, and would keep it over the CREAMi; the catch is single-serve cups. Taste of Home's testers call it almost goof-proof and found it still working well after a year of regular use.

We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
