Is the Samsung U8000F Crystal UHD worth it?

Yes, if you want a big Samsung for little money.

Its default picture is bright and punchy for the price, input lag is low at about 10ms, and it handles HDR10+ and HLG, with VRR and auto low-latency mode for consoles. It's a basic 60Hz LED set: there's no Dolby Vision and no local dimming, the picture fades quickly from the sides, some panels show patchy backlighting, and the menus are slow. Owners mostly love the picture for the money, but the main complaint is TVs that failed within months.

How we reached this verdict

What Hi-Fi tested the 65- and 43-inch sizes: it likes the punchy Standard preset, the value and the low 9.7ms input lag with VRR and ALLM, but finds no Dolby Vision, no local dimming, very narrow viewing angles, some backlight blotching, a disappointing Filmmaker Mode and sluggish menus. Target owners mostly love the clear, colourful picture for the money; the main complaint is sets that stopped working within months.

We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
