Is the Sony Bravia 7 II worth it?

Only if you want a bright LCD and won't buy OLED.

Its RGB Mini LED backlight gives deep blacks with little haloing, excellent brightness and vibrant, natural colour, and Sony's processing is excellent. It's one of the best backlit TVs around. But it costs more than the LG C6, OLEDs still have better contrast, motion blurs in fast games, the sound is dull and only two HDMI ports are HDMI 2.1.

What owners say

Owners love the bright, colourful picture and the sound. The main complaint is a picture that is hard to get right.

Good to know

  • Fast motion in games is blurry.
  • Colours can bleed into whites, giving them a tint (a setting helps).
  • The sound is dull: plan on a soundbar.
  • Chunky and heavy for a modern TV.

How we reached this verdict

RTINGS rates it excellent for home cinema and bright rooms: deep, uniform blacks, excellent peak brightness and colour, and fantastic processing, but motion blurs in games and only two ports are HDMI 2.1. What Hi-Fi finds it a very impressive backlit TV with excellent depth and natural colour, but says cheaper OLEDs still give better contrast, so for most people it doesn't justify the price.

We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
