Is the TCL P8K worth it?
Yes โ when it's discounted.
It's a direct-lit QLED with local dimming, so it's punchier than edge-lit budget TVs, with vibrant colour and plenty of brightness for everyday TV. It plays Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG, and games at up to 144Hz with Dolby Vision gaming at 120Hz. A small sub on the back gives its 2.1 Onkyo speakers more body than most TVs. Blacks look a little grey next to Mini LED, it fades from the side, the feet sit at the ends so it needs a wide stand, and only HDMI 1 does 144Hz, which is also the eARC port.

How we reached this verdict
T3 calls it great value, with wide HDR format support and good gaming features, and a bargain once it's discounted. It notes limited viewing angles, blacks that can look a little grey and a few design foibles, like feet that need a wide stand and a small badge on the screen frame.
We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
