Is the TCL X11L worth it?

Yes — if you want the most spectacular big-screen picture.

It's blindingly bright, with huge colour and almost no blooming when you sit in front of it, so HDR looks spectacular in any room, and its Filmmaker Mode keeps films looking natural. All four HDMI ports do 4K at 144Hz with low input lag. It starts at 75 inches and costs far more than TCL's other TVs, its speakers disappoint for the price, games blur a little and blooming shows from the side.

Good to know

  • The built-in speakers disappoint for the price, with light bass.
  • The colour calibration controls don't fully work.
  • The screen reflects more than some premium rivals.
  • Heavy, with feet only at the corners: you need a wide unit or a strong wall.

How we reached this verdict

RTINGS rates it amazing for mixed use, home cinema and bright rooms: deep, uniform blacks with almost no haloing, outstanding brightness and colour, and four full HDMI 2.1 ports. It marks it down for disappointing speakers and calibration controls that don't fully work. Expert Reviews gives it a Best Buy award: it measured nearly 8,800 nits, found Filmmaker Mode very accurate and calls it TCL's showcase TV.

We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
