Is the TCL Z100 Wireless Speaker worth it?

Yes — if you own a recent TCL TV.

Each Z100 has its own woofer and an up-firing driver, and pairs over Wi-Fi with a FlexConnect TCL TV, which measures where they stand and tunes the sound to your seat. Two of them behind the sofa give real surround and overhead effects with strong, controlled bass, and up to four can join. The TV stays the centre speaker, so voices only sound as good as the TV's own speakers. You can't set the Z100s' volume apart from the TV, so the rears can be too loud, and with any other TV they're just Bluetooth speakers.

Good to know

  • Works as surround only with FlexConnect TCL TVs.
  • The TV stays the centre channel, so voices depend on its speakers.
  • There's no way to set the speakers' volume apart from the TV.
  • No app, and short power cables.

  • Place them anywhere: no cables to the TV
  • Overhead Atmos and strong bass from each one

Skip it if…

  • Your TV isn't a TCL.

How we reached this verdict

hifi.de tested a pair with a TCL C7K and liked the concept a lot: effects move around and above the room, bass is strong and controlled, setup is simple and the build feels solid. Its limits are that it works only with TCL TVs for now, the TV still handles voices, and the rears' volume can't be adjusted on its own.

We compared independent expert reviews with the manufacturer's specifications, then checked it's sold at a major retailer where you live. We don't test products ourselves.
